FITNESS & MARTIAL ARTS CLASSES
At Sparta Academy, we believe you’re only as strong as your weakest link. Our Sparta Cross Training Method is a proven system that diversifies your workout to make you strong, lean and healthy for an active lifestyle. By placing you in a small class environment you receive personalized attention to hone in on your exact needs. Each Cross Training class in our gym begins with dynamic flexibility exercises, depending on which body part is emphasized that day, and then moves on to Olympic Lifting and Power Lifting as the cornerstone of your workout. To amp things up, we move on to auxiliary lifts to maximize gains. And finally, the class wraps up with martial arts skills such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Krav Maga, speed drills, or endurance training to make you a useful and well-rounded athlete.
STRENGTH TRAINING
POWER LIFTING
In powerlifting, you must complete three different lifts – the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Power is the basis behind almost all sports performance. Powerlifting is a great off-season workout for building maximum strength that can later be applied to your sport of choice. It’s most applicable to sprinters and track racers, but it’s useful for everyone.
OLYMPIC LIFTING (FOR SPORTS)
Olympic weightlifting tests aspects of human ballistic limits (explosive strength) and are therefore executed faster—and with more mobility and a greater range of motion during their execution.
SPEED & AGILITY
Speed and agility training drills are designed to work all of your leg and core muscles, as well as the tendons in your body. Through a combination of drills, you’ll hone in on your accuracy, flexibility, and balance. This type of training can help you to lose weight, gain muscle tone, and build up your endurance. Useful for sports, this form of training over time enhances sprinting, jumping, and explosive movements for a lean, strong body.
SELF DEFENSE TRAINING
BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person.
KRAV MAGA
Krav Maga is a martial art and self-defense system developed for the military and defense forces in Israel and has since been refined for civilian application. It consists of a wide combination of techniques sourced from boxing, savate, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, grappling, and realistic fight training. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations, extreme efficiency, and brutal counter-attacks.
Mixed Martial Arts
Pankration formed the basis for all combat training for the ancient Greek soldiers, including the famous Spartan warriors. Pankration can be defined as the origin and ancient root of all modern day Mixed Martial Arts. MMA is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, from a variety of other combat sports and martial arts.
MUAY THAI
Muay Thai is a combat sport from the muay martial arts of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on foot is known as “the art of eight limbs” because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient.
